Performing their new single live, U2 open the show with an pic performance of ‘Get On Your Boots’. The Irish foursome are sporting a different theme to normal, with lyrics of the single previewed on the screens. Kylie Minogue then stops by for a bit of a dance with Comedy Queens James Cordens and Matthew Horne to her own hit ‘Out Of My Head’. The presenters are wacky, wild and witty but they sure put on one heck of a show.
Simon Peg gets the privalige to announce the first award of the night which is the ‘Best British Female Award’, the award goes to welsh diva Duffy, her first Brit but surely not her last. Then comes the second award presented by Mr Lionel Richie for the ‘Best International Female Artist’, the award goes to American Girl kisser Katy Perry, who is dressed awfully wierd in her metal styled Hello Kitty number, but it works as this young sensation knows how to brave it. Next peformance of the night is the Pop foursome girl band Girls Aloud singing their hit ‘The Promise’. The performance was very pink and feathery for the Girl group as they strutted down a numerous amount of stairs wearing short silver dresses. The third award gets taken over by Alex James who announces that the ‘Best British Breakthrough Act’ goes to Duffy again. Duffy is on a roll with three awards in just half an hour into the show.
Coldplay then breakout performing their hit selling record ‘Viva La Vida’, the whole production giving a british feel. Although we do feel sorry for the drummeras he had to hit that bass drum with his hand through out the whole song, poor lad, but lets hope he gets to hold one of the Brit Awards they have been nominated several times for with it. Then after a break, Natalie Imbruglia then struts on to announce the winner of the ‘Best International Award’, the award goes to the rockers who produced our favourite 2008 rock anthem ‘Sex On Fire’, yep its the Kings Of Leon’. Jamie Callum and Jamie Oliver then come onto the stage to give the ‘Best British Male award’, they give it to the legend;Paul Weller. Sadly Mr Weller couldn’t be at the bash but sends his apologies for his absence.Welsh beauty Duffy is up next on the Line-Up performing her 2008 No.1 hit ‘Warwick Avenue’, an outstanding rendition from both the singer herself and the perfectly in time orchestra. They deserved every applaud they got. Next up is former boxer Joe Kawasaki presenting the ‘Best International Album’ award, The Kings Of Leon still the award again for their album ‘Only By The Night’. At this rate Duffy and the Kings Of leon will be the only ones who will be taking the little silver men home.
An alien theme production then takes before Take That take to the spaceship singing their hit record ‘Greatest Day’. Dressed in Spectacles and tuxes the four piece rock the stage as they come down in their legendary spaceship. Nick Frost then comes down the steps to present the award for the ‘Best British Live Act’. The award goes to heavy rockers Iron Maiden who also couldn’t make the show due to being half way round the world touring. The one and only David Hasslehoff gives the next award which is for the ‘Best British Group’, that award goes to the arm joint band Elbow. What a speech they gave, sweet but short.
A self explanitry Orange tastic performance then kicks off from the Nashville Four piece The Kings Of Leon singing ‘Use Somebody’. Bring on the Trumpets, and the Drums, also a little guitar, maybe some bass too. Hmmmm…………As previously reported Florence & The Machine won the hearts of the Critics Choice so Florence herself came out to accept the award for her ‘Kiss With A Fist’ band. ‘How To Look Good Naked’ star Gok Wan came out to present an award, this time for the ‘Best International Male Solo Artist’. The award went to the ‘Love Lock Down’ singer Mr Kanye West who also couldn’t be at the bash but gives his thanks to the company and Barack Obama! The walking, talking and living artists The Ting Tings perform next with colaborations from R&B sensation Estelle. The whole mix was unique so it brought a ton of edge. The two artists performed the songs, ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go’,'American Boy’ and ‘Thats Not My Name’.
The most important award of the night [which was voted by the public] was for the ‘Best British Single’ award. Girls Aloud got that one for ‘The Promise’ and was given it by funny but camp comedian Alan Carr who was not shy to give the girls a good old fashioned hug. Awwww………….
Mr Tom Jones then pops out from the stairs to present the award for the ‘Master Card Best British Album’ award, Duffy again steals it leaving her with a whopping three Brits. Then we find out that the rumors were true all along. Lady Gaga shares the stage with Dance Duo The Pet Shop Boys, but it doesn’t stop there. The killers front man Brandon Flowers is also joining in the fun. What a Night. Brandon Flowers (Dressed in a jacket with shoulder pads covered in feathers) then comes out to give the ‘Outstanding Contribution To Music’ award to none other than the Pet Shop Boys. Meanwhile the duo are performing their classic pop song ‘In Suburbia’ mixed in with other classics such as ‘Always on my mind (Originally by Elvis Presley),Go West and What Have I Done To Deserve This (Which featured Lady GaGa). Brandon Flowers than walks on to the stage to perform the Pet Shop Boys hit ‘It’s A Sin’. They also perform other hits of theirs including ‘West End Girls’ which both Lady GaGa and Mr Brandon Flowers featured in. The whole show ended with a bang;literally. All the bands who performed on the show should be proud of their little famous selves, especially the ones who actually won the little metal man awards. Awwww. Bless there little cotton socks.
